Every Sanborn Canoe Co. paddle is handcrafted in Winona, Minnesota.

Keepin’ it traditional! Our Wapasha beavertail wooden canoe paddle is a more traditional paddle employing modern technology to keep it both lightweight and durable. After a long day of paddling you’ll be thankful for the long thin blade and light weight of this paddle – it is a very easy paddler. It is a straight-shaft super light-weight canoe paddle. The blade is sheathed in fiberglass and a hard epoxy tip is added to ward off pesky logs and rocks. And the fox-head palm grip, indexed shaft and thin blade are all designed to remove stress from your hands and joints.

Our Wapasha beavertail’s name has everything to do with location. Sanborn Canoe Co. is located in Winona Minnesota which is named after the daughter of Chief Wapasha, princess We-No-Nah. There is quite a story or legend, depending on what you believe, involving love, betrothal and suicide behind princess We-No-Nah. As the story goes she jumped to her death from a large rock rather than marry a suitor she did not love.
